Broadly speaking, Ergonomics is the study of
work. It is an applied science concerned with human beings
and how we interact with our work environments. Ergonomics
has implications for employee safety and efficiency. It
includes such things as human machine interactions and how well
items like hand tools and furniture “fit” the people
using them so that the things people use will be well suited to
their purpose.
Ergonomics can
and should be considered for every job and every area
of work. Ideally, the interventions of ergonomics are
transparent to the worker; that is, the best designs just
work well without the worker being aware of them.
In some cases, work areas require modification in order
to best fit the job and environment to the people doing
the work.
